History of LGBTQIA+ Month
June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Pride month! Join us in celebrating the extraordinary contributions of our LGBTQ community by learning more about LGBT history, stories, and role models.
LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is celebrated in the month of June to commemorate the June 28, 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City which historians often use to mark the beginning of the LGBT movement. LGBTQIA+ History Month is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day celebrated on October 11. To find out more about the LGBT movement past and present, check out the resources using the tabs on the left.

We at the Palos Verdes Library District are committed to providing support and a safe space for all members of our community. To make sure our staff are knowledgeable, in 2017 and 2021 we offered in-house Safe Zone training based off of The Safe Zone Project curriculum which offer opportunities for staff to learn about gender and LGBTQIA identities.
